Vikings drop two at Nebraska Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Lawrence University baseball team lost both games of its season opening nonconference doubleheader at Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday.
Nebraska Wesleyan rallied to win the opener 6-3, and the Prairie Wolves took the nightcap 13-2 in seven innings.
In the first game, Lawrence built a 3-0 lead with single runs in the first, third and fifth innings. Lawrence starter Elden Santana shut down Nebraska Wesleyan over the four-plus innings of his start. Santana didn't allow a run on three hits, and he struck out six and walked two.
Nebraska Wesleyan (3-0) scored four times in the sixth against Max Huddleston and tacked on two more runs in the eighth.
Lawrence's six hits were scattered among six players with Zach Leslie, CJ Filipek and Ben Gutowski all driving in a run.
In the second game, Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but it was short-lived. The Prairie Wolves scored three in the bottom of the first and three more in the second. They closed the game out with six runs in the sixth.
Three Lawrence pitchers gave up 12 hits and walked four. The Vikings had just five hits among five players with Shane Santaga and William Zatkowski driving in runs for the Vikings.
Nick Katz made the start and took the loss. He allowed three earned runs on hits while striking out three and walking two.
The teams wrap up the series with one game on Sunday.
