Lawrence can't climb out of early hole against Willamette

    CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Lawrence University softball team dropped an 18-5 nonconference decision to Willamette University in six innings on Tuesday at Legends Field.
    The Bearcats jumped on Lawrence with four runs in the first and four more in the second. Willamette (9-6) closed the game out with seven runs in the sixth inning.
    Lawrence scored twice in the third and added three more runs in the fifth.
    Taylor Hughes went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in for the Vikings (4-9). Janessa Gonzalez also went 2-for-3, and Jordan Wallin-Swanson picked up a double for Lawrence. 
    Avery Chilson made the start and took the loss for Lawrence. She allowed eight hits over two innings, struck out two and didn't walk a batter. 
    Willamette finished with 21 hits in the contest.
