JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Lawrence University baseball team settled for a Midwest Conference doubleheader split with Illinois College on Saturday at Joe Brooks Field.
  Lawrence took the second game 6-2 after Illinois College rallied for a 4-3 win in the opener.
  In the second game,
CJ Filipek went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in a run for the Vikings (15-16, 9-6 MWC). Lawrence's
Taylor Freeman doubled and scored twice.Â

Nathan Zumbrunnen worked 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win.
William Polanco came into a bases-loaded jam in the ninth but got a strikeout and a flyout to pick up the save.
  Filipek's single scored Freeman in the opening inning, but Illinois College (22-14, 10-7) scored twice in the bottom half of the frame for a 2-1 edge. Lawrence tied it at 2-2 in the fourth when
Shane Santaga doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.
  Lawrence grabbed the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth.
Sage Beebe-Jenny got things started with a walk, and Freeman doubled to score Beebe-Jenny. Freeman later scored on a wild pitch, and the Vikings led 4-2.
  The Vikings picked up two insurance runs in the ninth on an RBI groundout from
Ben Gutowski and Beebe-Jenny's run-scoring single.Â
  Illinois College rallied in the ninth and loaded the bases on a single and two walks against Zumbrunnen. Polanco then struck out Ketch Mills and got a flyout from Jon Tate to end it.
  Lawrence got six strong innings from starter
Elden Santana, who allowed two runs on five hits, struck out four and walked three.
  In the opener,
Edan Perez went 2-for-4 with a double for the Vikings as they were limited to five hits while facing Illinois College ace Charlie Lardi.
  Lawrence scratched out two runs against Lardi in the sixth on
Zach Leslie's fielder's choice and Santaga's RBI single for a 2-1 lead. Freeman added a run-scoring single in the seventh, and the Vikings led 3-1.Â
  Illinois College cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh and scored twice in the ninth against Lawrence closer
Shane Foley to win it.

Richie LaCien put together a strong start for Lawrence as he allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out eight and walking four.
  The teams play the rubber game of the series on Sunday.
