APPLETON, Wis. --
Jamey Deckard is the newest member of the Lawrence University football coaching staff, Director of Athletics
Jason Imperati announded today.
  Deckard will coach the linebackers on the staff of head coach
Adam Gonzaga.
  "I coached Jamey at Hanover College," Gonzaga said. "He was just an outstanding player at Hanover, and he was an outstanding leader. I believe he brings that to our linebacking corps here at Lawrence."
  Deckard comes to Lawrence from Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky, where he was serving as a graduate assistant coach.Â
  "I am extremely excited to be joining the Lawrence University football program as the linebackers coach. Having seen the history of this university and this team, I am motivated to be part of a staff that is committed to bringing us back to that standard of excellence," Deckard said.
  A native of Beford, Indiana, Deckard was a standout linebacker at Hanover. Deckard was a three-year captain at Hanover and was a three-time All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection. He piled up 215 tackles, including 31.5 tackles for loss, during his career. Deckard, who played for Gonzaga for two seasons at Hanover, also picked up two interceptions and 11 passes defensed during his career. Â
  "It's especially meaningful to work alongside Coach Gonzaga, who coached me during my playing career and has been such an important mentor in my development," Deckard said. "I love the campus, the community and the faculty here, and I am eager to contribute to an administration and football staff that clearly shares a vision of getting us back to where we should be as a program."
