Vikings battle to tie with Concordia

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team grabbed the lead in the second half Friday, but a late goal resulted in a 2-2 nonconference tie with Concordia University Wisconsin on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Lawrence trailed 1-0 at the half in the season opener, but the Vikings tied it early in the second half. Rookie Elena Hartung played the ball into the box, and it was redirected by Kylie Melonis. Hannah Kalt jumped on it and fired it past Concordia goalkeeper Kara Claussner at the 57:42 mark.
The Vikings then grabbed the lead less than 10 minutes later on the first career goal by first-year Maddie Schellinger. She fireda shot from about 25 yards out that went over the outstretched hand of Claussner to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead at the 65:03 mark.
Concordia came back to tie it on Autumn Snow's breakaway goal at the 80:25 mark.
Ella Lysne made 11 saves for the Vikings, and Claussner stopped four shots for Concordia.
