Lawrence battles to tie with Cougars

    RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team opened its season Saturday with a 2-2 nonconference tie against Concordia University Chicago at Concordia Stadium.
    Lawrence scored both of its goals in the second half, but the Cougars got a goal with 13 minutes left to tie the contest.
    The Vikings trailed 1-0 after Concordia scored in the 56th minute, but Lawrence scored less than two minutes later.
    Evan Toth scored off a pass from Jack Ginsberg at the 56:47 mark to tie the game. Lawrence then grabbed the lead at the 73:22 mark when Emiliano Garcia Fadanalli scored off a pass from rookie William Mikkelsen for a 2-1 advantage.
    Concordia then tied it at the 76:51 mark.
    Lawrence nearly won it with a pair of near-misses in the final minutes. The Vikings had a shot that was tipped over the crossbar and another that went just wide in the final minute.
    Lawrence goalkeeper Nason Lancinia made three saves, and Nethan Gudiel stopped two shots for the Cougars, who saw their starting goalkeeper receive a red card in the 18th minute.
