Vikings can't keep pace with #24 Ripon

RIPON, Wis. — Lawrence University (11-4, 4-2 Midwest Conference) fell to Ripon College (14-2, 7-0 Midwest Conference), 67-34, at Weiske Gymnasium on Tuesday. The Vikings managed 10 blocks but struggled offensively, committing 29 turnovers that led to 38 points for the home team.

Lawrence began with a layup by Sophie Morey in the opening 30 seconds, setting an early tone. Despite a solid defensive presence with five blocks, including a crucial one by Josie Chose in the closing seconds, the Vikings struggled with turnovers, committing seven in the quarter. Ripon capitalized on these turnovers, gaining a slight edge in the paint and at the free-throw line, ultimately leading 18-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Lawrence started strong in the second quarter with Josie Eager's 3-pointer at 9:18, assisted by Charlotte Brennan, narrowing the gap to 18–14. Despite this, Ripon responded with a series of defensive plays, leading to turnovers and fast-break opportunities, extending their lead. Josie Chose added a layup at 3:34, assisted by Morey, to keep the Vikings within reach. However, Ripon's advantage in points off turnovers widened the lead to 35–22 by the end of the quarter.

Lawrence faced a challenging third quarter as Ripon increased pressure, resulting in a series of turnovers that stifled Lawrence's offensive momentum. Despite defensive efforts, including three blocks, the Vikings managed just 6 points in the quarter, with Chose contributing a layup and Molly Deering scoring on a fast break. The quarter ended with Ripon leading 50–28.

In the fourth quarter, the Vikings struggled to find offensive rhythm, converting only 2 of 10 field goal attempts with Brennan contributing with a pair of layups. Despite their efforts, turnovers proved costly as Lawrence committed seven in the quarter, allowing Ripon to capitalize and extend the lead. The home team outscored Lawrence 17-6 in the final frame, ending the game with a decisive 67-34 victory over the visitors.
