Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Vikings fall to Sabers at home

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence (2-17-0, 2-10-0) was defeated by Marian University (9-9-0, 6-6-0), 4-0, at the Appleton venue. Despite the loss, the Vikings' goalie made 33 saves throughout the match.

The game commenced with both Lawrence and Marian University seeking early control. Despite the Sabres' multiple shot attempts, Lawrence's goalkeeper, Ella Sciborski, consistently kept the puck out of the net. Lawrence capitalized on a power play opportunity after a penalty on Rebecca Larson from Marian but could not convert it into a goal.

Throughout the period, the Vikings maintained defensive composure, with significant saves by Sciborski and blocked shots by Ashley Slupe and Sophia Labrecque. As the first period concluded, neither team managed to score, leaving the score tied at 0-0.

Lawrence's defense showed resilience early in the second period, effectively neutralizing Marian's power-play opportunities despite facing consistent pressure. Sciborski made several crucial saves to keep the score tight during the initial exchanges. However, the Sabres shifted the momentum with a power-play goal by Zowie Hunter at 12:07, followed by two more goals at 10:01 and 7:37 to complete her hat trick. Lawrence attempted to counter with shots from Evelyn Pryadkin and Emmerson Berger but was unable to break through the defense.

The period concluded with Marian leading 3–0, as Lawrence will look to adjust their strategy in the next period to close the deficit and capitalize on any scoring opportunities.

The Sabres extended their lead midway through the third period with an unassisted goal by Hunter at 11:36. Despite Lawrence's efforts to gain momentum, including multiple faceoff wins by Sullivan Gillis and Emma Perry, the home team was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Lawrence's defensive efforts were highlighted by Sciborski's numerous saves and a blocked shot by Labrecque. The period concluded with Lawrence on a power play following a penalty on Marian's Larson. Lawrence was unable to convert during the power play, leaving the final score at 4-0 in favor of the Sabres.
