Vikings can't tame Falcons in home loss

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence fell to Concordia Wisconsin, 7–1, on Friday night. The Vikings managed a single goal in the third period, while Concordia Wisconsin's offensive effort was highlighted by seven goals on 45 shots.

Lawrence started the first period with control of the opening faceoff, setting the stage for an intense matchup. However, Concordia Wisconsin capitalized early, scoring just 18 seconds into the period with a goal from Mackaylan McGown, assisted by Abby Hansberger and Brenna-Grace Dittmer. Despite this early setback, the Vikings responded with a power play opportunity shortly after, generated by a Concordia penalty for too many players on the ice.Ā

Lawrence maintained pressure on the Concordia goal, with Emmerson Berger and Sullivan Gillis contributing key attempts, though the opposition's defense held firm. Dobrzynski was instrumental in the net, effectively saving numerous attempts to keep the Falcons from extending their lead. The period concluded with Lawrence trailing 1–0, but demonstrating a resilient defensive effort.

Concordia increased their lead in the second period, starting with a goal by Scout Stromberg at 15:41. This was quickly followed by Riley Veldman's unassisted goal at 15:13, putting Lawrence on the defensive. Despite efforts by Emma Perry and Berger to block shots and counter, the period saw the Falcons capitalize on a power play, with Naomi Black scoring at 3:02. Lawrence faced challenges throughout, but Dobrzynski provided critical saves to prevent further scoring. The second period closed with Concordia leading 4–0.

The third period began with Concordia extending their lead at 16:52 with a goal from Gabby Cicirello. Lawrence responded with a goal from Evelyn Pryadkin at 07:48, narrowing the gap. However, the Falcons quickly regained momentum, scoring again at 07:26 through Faith Fedyniak.Ā

Lawrence's defense, led by Dobrzynski, managed multiple saves throughout the period, but Concordia added another goal in the final seconds from Hansberger. Vikings will look to respond tomorrow on the road at CUW.
