While neither team was able to break the deadlock in overtime, Â Lawrence's goalie made 48 saves, keeping the game level despite Concordia's 51 shots on goal.
The first period commenced with Lawrence taking control of the opening faceoff. The Vikings consistently won faceoffs early and successfully killed two penalties, allowing the Falcons to capitalize only once. Despite several attempts from Concordia, Mahaffey provided critical saves to maintain the balance early on.
Concordia managed to break through with a goal by Levi Carter at 8:33, taking the lead. However, Lawrence responded with an equalizer at 15:39, as
Cody Brekke found the back of the net with assists from Jensen and Johnson. The period closed at a 1â1 tie, setting the stage for a competitive next period.
