Vikings remain unbeaten in conference play

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence (11-2, 4-0 Midwest Conference) defeated Cornell College (7-5, 1-3 Midwest Conference) on Wednesday, 61-40, with a dominant defensive performance that forced 25 turnovers and converted them into 15 points.

Lawrence capitalized on a strong defensive effort, forcing 10 turnovers and converting them into five points, while limiting Cornell's chances in the paint. Despite a shooting struggle, going 2-for-19 from the field, the Vikings held the visitors to 2-for-8 shooting. Lawrence took a 9-5 lead at the end of the first quarter by making all four of their free throw attempts.

The Vikings capitalized on Cornell's turnovers, converting nine giveaways into eight points to dominate the second quarter. The home team effectively controlled the paint, scoring ten points inside while limiting the visitors to just one bucket on eight attempts. By the end of the quarter, Lawrence held a 20-9 advantage.

Lawrence extended their lead in the third quarter by dominating the paint, scoring 12 points inside and converting all eight free throws. Their defense was equally effective, forcing the Rams into six turnovers while blocking three shots, contributing to a 20-7 scoring advantage. At the end of the third, Lawrence led 40-16.

Lawrence maintained a steady offensive performance despite being outscored 24-21 in the fourth quarter by Cornell. The Vikings capitalized on their 3-point shooting, making four shots from beyond the arc, and added five free throws on six attempts. Cornell's offensive push was led by converting 10 of 17 field goals, including four 3-pointers, and distributing eight assists. Lawrence's win over Cornell tonight keeps them undefeated in conference play.
