GALESBURG, Ill. — The Lawrence University men's soccer team used a pair of first-half goals and a strong defensive effort to secure a 2-0 victory over Knox College Saturday morning at Jorge Prats Field.
The Vikings applied pressure early, generating several chances before breaking through in the 28th minute. Grayson Ogren put Lawrence on the board with his 13th goal of the season, finishing off an assist from Emiliano Garcia Fadanalli to give the Vikings a 1-0 advantage.
Lawrence continued to control the match following the opening goal and doubled its lead just before halftime. Quill Tegenfeldt-Pfohman found the back of the net in the 44th minute, scoring unassisted to send the Vikings into halftime with a 2-0 cushion.
Knox came out of the locker room looking to cut into the deficit, but Lawrence's defense kept the Prairie Fire from finding an answer. The Vikings allowed just four shots in the second half while continuing to create opportunities of their own.
William Plougmand Mikkelsen helped lead Lawrence's attack throughout the match, putting several shots on goal in the second half, including a pair of chances that were saved by Knox goalkeeper Alessandro Carlani.
Cristian Puebla provided the final line of defense for the Vikings, making three saves to record the shutout. Lawrence finished with a 10-8 advantage in shots and put five attempts on target.
The Vikings also earned eight corner kicks compared to four for Knox and controlled 57 percent of possession.
