Four First-Half Goals Power Vikings Past Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. — The Lawrence University women's soccer team put together one of its strongest offensive performances of the season Saturday afternoon, racing past Knox College 6-1 at Jorge Prats Field.

The Vikings wasted little time establishing control, scoring twice during the opening 18 minutes. Elena Hartung opened the scoring in the 13th minute after receiving an assist from Ava Elders, and Izzy Robertson added another five minutes later off a pass from Hannah Kalt.

Lawrence continued to pressure the Prairie Fire throughout the remainder of the half. Sophia Gaus extended the advantage to 3-0 in the 37th minute with an unassisted goal before Caroline Cody added another just over two minutes later, with Anja Dobbins providing the assist.

The four-goal first half gave Lawrence a commanding advantage heading into the break. The Vikings continued to generate chances after halftime, finishing the match with 15 shots, including 11 on target.

Cody added her second goal of the afternoon in the 61st minute, this time with Kylie Melonis earning the assist. Knox answered with a goal several minutes later, but Lawrence quickly regained control.

Melonis capped the scoring in the 76th minute, finding the net off another assist from Elders to give the Vikings a 6-1 advantage.

Lawrence finished the match with a 15-3 edge in shots and controlled 59 percent of possession. The Vikings also held Knox to just two shots on target.

Ally Littau played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save.

Cody led the way with two goals, while Melonis finished with a goal and an assist. Elders contributed two assists, with Hartung, Robertson and Gaus each adding a goal.
