Lawrence Shuts Out Foresters to Punch Championship Ticket

DECORAH, Iowa — The Lawrence University women's soccer team is headed to the Midwest Conference Tournament championship game. The Vikings delivered a tremendous defensive performance Friday afternoon, knocking off No. 2 seed Lake Forest College 1-0 in the tournament semifinals at Luther Soccer Field.

Lawrence wasted no time making its presence felt, finding the breakthrough in the opening half. Hannah Kalt provided the decisive moment in the 10th minute, scoring an unassisted goal to put the Vikings in front. Kalt's seventh goal of the season gave Lawrence an early advantage and set the stage for a determined effort over the remainder of the match.

With the lead in hand, the Vikings continued to apply pressure while staying organized defensively. Lawrence finished the contest with an 11-4 advantage in shots, putting eight attempts on target. The Vikings also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks and controlled 57 percent of the possession, consistently making Lake Forest work to get opportunities going forward.

The Foresters were unable to break through against a disciplined Lawrence defense. Goalkeeper Bee Brockhert made two saves to preserve the shutout, while the Vikings limited Lake Forest to just four total shots and two attempts on goal. Lawrence protected its narrow advantage through the final whistle to secure one of its biggest victories of the season.

Ava Elders led the Vikings with four shots, including three on target. Kalt finished with two shots, both on goal, while Elena Hartung also put both of her attempts on frame.

The victory sends Lawrence past the tournament's No. 2 Lake Forest and into the Midwest Conference Tournament championship game. After shutting out the Foresters in the semifinal, the Vikings now have a chance to finish their postseason run with a conference tournament title when they face host and regular season champions Luther.
