Vikings can't keep pace with Foresters

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Lawrence (11-11, 4-9 Midwest Conference) fell to Lake Forest (16-7, 11-3 Midwest Conference) 87-71 on Tuesday night at the Sports & Recreation Center. Despite outscoring the Foresters 42-44 in the second half, Lawrence could not overcome the first-half deficit.

Lawrence began the first half with a strong start, highlighted by Casey Schoenecker's layup and a 3-pointer from Nicholas Gouriotis, assisted by Caleb Nash, to take an early lead. The team showcased defensive resilience with Schoenecker recording two blocks within the first three minutes. Despite the Vikings' efforts in the paint, scoring 14 points, Lake Forest capitalized on turnovers to regain momentum.

Midway through the half, Lake Forest went on a scoring run, extending their lead. Lawrence managed to cut into the deficit with key contributions from CJ Campbell, who added a 3-pointer, and Schoenecker, who assisted on Nash's layup. However, the Foresters maintained their pace with efficient shooting and fast breaks, closing the half with a 43–29 advantage.

Lawrence started the second half with an immediate response, as Schoenecker scored a layup following a three-pointer by Lake Forest. Campbell later sparked momentum by completing a three-point play at 16:40, narrowing the gap. Campbell continued to impact the game with a three-pointer and a jumper, contributing to a resilient offensive push.

Despite the efforts, Lawrence faced a challenge as Lake Forest maintained their scoring pace. Campbell led a scoring run, closing the game strong with a series of layups and free throws, but the Vikings fall short on the road to the Foresters.
