Vikings Capture 14th Victory, Achieve Program’s First Winning Season in 10 Years

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence (14-11, 7-9 Midwest Conference) secured a decisive 73-60 victory over Knox (10-15, 6-10 Midwest Conference) on Saturday night at Alexander Gym. This win marked the Vikings' first winning season since the 2013-14 season and secured their first 14-win season since the 2008-09 campaign. The team's defense forced 17 turnovers, converting them into 21 points.

The game commenced with the Vikings quickly establishing a rhythm from beyond the arc. Nicolas Manzanera assisted Damian Cejka on a three-pointer to open the home team's scoring. They maintained momentum through the half, aided by CJ Campbell's shooting prowess, who hit multiple 3-pointers. Campbell's scoring was complemented by a strong defensive effort, including multiple steals and blocks.

Lawrence capitalized on Knox's turnovers, converting them into points on fast breaks, and showcased efficient ball movement with 11 assists in the half. The home team also dominated the bench scoring, contributing significantly to their lead. As the half concluded, the Vikings maintained a substantial lead, ending with a 50-29 advantage over the Prairie Fire.

Lawrence maintained its momentum in the second half, highlighted by a balanced offensive effort and key defensive plays. Manzanera's layup, assisted by Nathan Valentine, kept the pace early, while Cejka and Casey Schoenecker contributed crucial baskets to extend the Vikings' lead. Despite Knox's attempts to close the gap, Schoenecker's defensive prowess, including a timely block, helped sustain Lawrence's advantage.

Schoenecker and Nicholas Gouriotis further solidified the team's position with successful shots, increasing the lead through the half. Knox managed to score in spurts, but Lawrence's offense, including a late layup by Joe Whitfill, ensured the home team closed the half with a 73-60 lead.
