APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University (2-21-0, 2-14-0) fell to the University of Dubuque (4-19-0, 3-13-0), 2–1, in a closely contested game. Despite the Vikings' 32 shots on goal, Dubuque's goalie made 31 saves to secure the victory.
The first period began with Lawrence winning the opening faceoff, setting the stage for an evenly contested period. The Vikings' defensive efforts were highlighted by
Ella Sciborski's multiple saves, maintaining pressure against the Spartans' offensive attempts. Despite power-play opportunities for both teams, neither side capitalized on the advantage, with the Vikings' shots frequently blocked or saved.
As the period progressed, Lawrence continued to generate opportunities but struggled to find the back of the net. Dubuque managed to break through late in the period with a goal by Malia Tetreault at 19:24, assisted by Bree Hallson. This goal gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead as the period closed, leaving the Vikings looking to rebound in the second period.
Lawrence began the second period with offensive pressure, as
Meg Landman and
Leina Quiniou each fired early attempts on goal, but Dubuque's Emily Skanron remained steady in net. Despite several shots from the home team, Dubuque capitalized on a scoring opportunity at 15:03 when Madilynn Schiile found the back of the net with assists from Ashleigh Eldridge and Natalie Meeder, extending the visitor's lead.
The Vikings responded with a series of power plays but were unable to convert due to consistent saves by Skanron. The period continued with Lawrence generating multiple chances, including a shot from Landman that hit the pipe, but they couldn't break through. The score stood at 2-0 in favor of Dubuque as the period concluded.
