APPLETON, Wis. – The Lawrence University women's lacrosse team battled back after a slow start but ultimately fell to Aquinas College 10–6 Tuesday evening at Banta Bowl.
Aquinas jumped out to an early advantage, scoring three times in the opening quarter and adding three more goals in the second to build a 6–0 lead. Lawrence found momentum late in the half with a three-goal surge, beginning with a man-up goal from Annika Solberg. Reese Deibert added a goal off an assist from Mackenzie Igel-Harri, and Savannah Larsen finished the run with a goal assisted by Emma Perry, trimming the deficit to 6–3 heading into halftime.
The Vikings continued to push in the second half. Igel-Harri scored on a free-position opportunity during a man-up advantage in the third quarter to pull Lawrence within three. Solberg added two more goals in the fourth quarter to complete her hat trick and bring the Vikings within 9–6 late in the game.
Aquinas sealed the contest with a goal in the final seconds to secure the 10–6 win.
Solberg led Lawrence with three goals, while Larsen, Deibert and Igel-Harri each added a goal. Perry and Igel-Harri recorded assists for the Vikings.
In goal, Neva Mertsching recorded 14 saves in the first half and Emma Berg added five more in the second half as Lawrence totaled 19 saves in the contest. The Vikings also held a 25–20 edge in ground balls and won 10 draw controls.
