MOLINE, Ill. — The Lawrence University baseball team delivered one of its strongest offensive performances of the season Saturday morning, scoring 20 runs in a 20–7 victory over Hope College.
After falling behind early, the Vikings quickly took control with a relentless offensive attack that produced 12 hits and 10 walks.
Lawrence struck first in the opening inning as CJ Filipek drove in two runs with a single to score Nathan Depew and Sage Beebe-Jenny. Myles Brincks added another run with a sacrifice fly to give the Vikings an early 3–0 lead.
Hope answered with six runs in the bottom half of the inning, but the Vikings responded immediately. Lawrence exploded for seven runs in the second inning to reclaim the lead. The rally featured an RBI walk from Ben Gutowski, a run-scoring single from Nolan Zurawski, and a key RBI play from Dyson Sharpton as Lawrence surged ahead 10–6.
The Vikings continued to build momentum throughout the game. Sage Beebe-Jenny added an RBI single in the fourth inning before Lawrence broke the contest open with a nine-run sixth inning. During the inning, the Vikings capitalized on multiple bases-loaded opportunities with RBIs from Beebe-Jenny, Nathan Depew, AJ Desantiago, CJ Filipek, and Boris Christensen.
Beebe-Jenny led the offense with three runs scored and two RBIs. Filipek drove in three runs while Desantiago added two hits and an RBI. Gutowski and Christensen each contributed two RBIs as the Vikings continued to apply pressure throughout the lineup.
On the mound, Ari Smolar-Eisenberg picked up the win before Max Huddleston and Conner Robertson combined for six innings in relief to close out the victory.
