DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Lawrence University baseball team erupted for 10 runs across the middle innings and used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Hamilton 12-6 on Tuesday at Northeast Regional Park.
After Hamilton struck first in the opening inning and added two more in the third to take a 3-2 lead, the Vikings responded with steady offensive pressure and took control of the game behind a dominant stretch from the fifth through the eighth innings.
Lawrence tied the game in the fifth when AJ Desantiago delivered an RBI single to score Steven Baudendistel. Moments later, Boris Christensen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another run and give the Vikings a 4-3 lead.
The Vikings broke the game open in the sixth inning. Desantiago came through again with a two-RBI single, scoring Myles Brincks and Nathan Depew, and Dylan Keelan followed with a two-run double down the left field line to extend the lead to 8-3.
Lawrence continued to add on in the seventh and eighth innings, capitalizing on defensive miscues and continuing to apply pressure on the basepaths. The Vikings scored twice in the seventh and twice more in the eighth, highlighted by an RBI single from Nathan Depew that pushed the lead to 12-3.
Desantiago led the offensive charge with a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Keelan added two hits and two RBIs, while Depew chipped in two hits and an RBI. Myles Brincks added a hit and RBI, and the Vikings saw contributions throughout the lineup as they finished with 10 hits on the day.
On the mound, Nathan Zumbrunnen earned the win with a strong relief outing, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out three to stabilize the game after the early innings.
Hamilton made a late push with three runs in the ninth, but Lawrence had already built enough separation to secure the victory.
