Doherty Leads Late Push as Vikings Narrowly Fall

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lawrence University softball team outhit Westminster but couldn't overcome an early three-run inning, falling 3-2 on Monday.

Westminster struck in the second inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues to plate three runs. Ellie Schisler delivered the key blow with a bases-clearing double, giving Westminster an early 3-0 advantage.

Despite the early deficit, Lawrence responded with consistent offensive pressure throughout the game, finishing with nine hits. The Vikings broke through in the fifth inning when Zoe Doherty delivered an RBI double to center field, scoring Adrie Villa to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Lawrence continued to push late into the game. In the seventh inning, Doherty sparked the rally again with a triple, and Anitza Gutierrez followed with an RBI single to bring the Vikings within one at 3-2.

Doherty led the offense with a standout performance, going 2-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI, and a run scored. Avery Chilson added two hits, while Gillian Guerriero, Isabella Alfaro, Shelby Rozak, and Janna Bode each contributed hits in a balanced attack.

In the circle, Georgia Sedlack delivered a strong outing, allowing just five hits and three runs—none earned—while striking out three over six innings to keep Lawrence within striking distance throughout.
