CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lawrence University softball team used a dominant second inning and a strong outing in the circle from Georgia Sedlack to defeat North Central (Minn.) 9-1 on Tuesday at Legends Ballpark.
After North Central struck first in the opening inning, the Vikings responded immediately. Gillian Guerriero tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, scoring Anitza Gutierrez.
Lawrence broke the game open in the second inning, plating six runs on four hits while capitalizing on defensive miscues. Adrie Villa drew a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to give the Vikings the lead, and Ava Pilgrim followed with a two-RBI single. Later in the inning, Guerriero delivered a two-run double to center, capping the rally and pushing the lead to 7-1.
The Vikings added to their advantage in the third inning when Pilgrim drove in another run, and extended the lead again in the sixth on an RBI single from Gutierrez to make it 9-1.
Guerriero led the offense with three RBIs, while Pilgrim also drove in three runs as part of a balanced attack. Gutierrez added an RBI and scored twice, while Zoe Doherty, Callie Rozak, and Allisyn Briggs each crossed the plate in the win.
In the circle, Sedlack delivered a dominant performance, tossing a complete game while allowing just two hits and one run while striking out four.
Lawrence combined timely hitting with aggressive baserunning and solid pitching to control the game from the early innings to secure the victory.
