Appleton, Wisconsin — The Lawrence University men's lacrosse team jumped out early but could not sustain the momentum, falling 10-5 to Illinois Tech at the Banta Bowl on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings came out strong, building a 3-1 lead after the opening quarter behind early offensive execution. Brody Herr led the charge for Lawrence, finishing with a hat trick and consistently creating pressure on the Scarlet Hawks defense.
Illinois Tech responded in the second quarter, holding Lawrence scoreless while adding two goals to even the game's momentum heading into halftime. From there, the visitors took control, outscoring Lawrence 7-2 over the final two periods.
Herr's three goals paced the Vikings offensively, while Henry Fischer and Judah Goehring each added a goal. Robbie Spielmann and Eamon Tegenfeldt-Pfo each recorded assists in the effort.
Defensively, Lawrence stayed active with 24 ground balls and 10 saves in net, but Illinois Tech's edge in shots (42-28) and faceoffs proved to be a key difference.
