FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Hannah Kalt put the Lawrence University women's soccer team in front in the first half, but Marian University found a late equalizer as the Vikings battled to a 1-1 draw Thursday night at Smith Field.
Lawrence created the better chances early and broke through in the 29th minute. Sieanna Sandor delivered a free kick from near midfield into the box, and Kalt connected with a header to give the Vikings a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Kalt's second of the season.
The Vikings controlled the attacking opportunities throughout much of the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Marian 8-4 and putting four shots on goal. Zoe Feeley-Wheeler tested Marian goalkeeper Cristal Muniz twice in the first half, while Ava Elders also put an attempt on frame.
Lawrence protected its one-goal advantage deep into the second half. Goalkeeper Ally Littau made her lone save of the match in the 52nd minute to keep the Vikings in front.
Marian finally broke through with just over four minutes remaining when Anna Riley scored at the 85:54 mark to tie the match.
Lawrence finished with a 9-8 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. The Vikings and Sabres each earned four corner kicks, while Muniz made four saves for Marian.
