DE PERE, Wis. — The Lawrence University volleyball team went the distance with Carthage College on Friday before falling 3-2 at the Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
Lawrence grabbed a 2-1 advantage after taking the opening set 25-18 and battling to a 26-24 victory in the third. Carthage answered by winning the fourth 25-12 before edging the Vikings 15-13 in the decisive fifth set.
The Vikings came out firing in the opener, putting down 17 kills with only two errors on 36 attacks for a .417 hitting percentage. Lawrence later fought through a tight third set to regain control of the match and move within one set of the victory.
Emma Nilson led the Lawrence attack with 18 kills while hitting .368, committing just four errors on 38 swings. She also contributed two solo blocks and a block assist. Bella Van Lannen added nine kills, while Meg Pfannerstill finished with six kills on a .278 hitting percentage.
Hallie Neill handed out a team-high 24 assists and delivered four service aces, while Ally Corrente added 16 assists and a team-best 14 digs. Aria Wessel collected 13 digs, Amanda Vlkovic finished with 12 and Makenna Rettler added 10.
Norma Glisczinski helped lead the Vikings at the net with two solo blocks and four block assists as Lawrence finished with five solo blocks and 10 block assists as a team. The Vikings also totaled nine service aces and 74 digs.
