JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — Hannah Kalt scored twice during a dominant second-half surge as the Lawrence University women's soccer team rallied for a 3-1 victory over Illinois College in its Midwest Conference opener Saturday.
The Vikings improved to 5-0-3 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play after overcoming a 1-0 halftime deficit. Lawrence erupted for three goals after the break while holding the Lady Blues scoreless over the final 45 minutes.
Illinois College grabbed the early advantage when Aliza Rodriguez scored in the ninth minute, but Lawrence came out firing in the second half. Kalt pulled the Vikings even at 50:32, finishing a chance set up by Kylie Melonis for her third goal of the season.
Less than nine minutes later, Kalt struck again. She scored unassisted at 59:28 to put Lawrence in front 2-1 and complete her first multi-goal performance of the season.
The Vikings added insurance in the 72nd minute when Isabelle Cromheecke scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Kylie Kutschera, extending the advantage to 3-1.
Lawrence controlled much of the match statistically, finishing with a 12-9 advantage in shots and putting 10 attempts on goal. The Vikings also generated seven corner kicks to Illinois College's one. Kalt put all three of her shots on frame, while Ava Elders added three shots and two on goal.
Ally Littau earned the victory in goal after making six saves, including four in the second half, as Lawrence preserved its unbeaten start.
