APPLETON, Wis. — Clara Hills delivered a thrilling three-set victory at No. 1 singles Sunday as the Lawrence University women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Lake Forest College in a Midwest Conference match at the Lawrence Courts.
Hills battled Sofia Strupovets at the top of the lineup. After dropping the opening set 7-6 (7-2), Hills responded with a 6-3 victory in the second set.
The deciding match tiebreaker went back and forth before Hills pulled out a 14-12 win to complete the comeback and secure Lawrence's point.
Lake Forest opened the match by sweeping doubles play. Tess McGlenn and Sky Shinohara had Lawrence's closest doubles result in a 6-4 loss at No. 2.
McGlenn also battled in a 6-4, 6-1 loss at No. 3 singles. Arisa McCullough fell 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5, while Rachael Pofahl dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 6.
Lawrence moved to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Select Vikings return to action Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament in St. Peter, Minnesota.
