Assistant coach Trent Whitcomb

Trent Whitcomb

Trent Whitcomb was named Lawrence University baseball interim head coach in September 2024, but he is a familiar face to the Vikings.
Whitcomb has been part of the Lawrence program since 2018 and takes over for Chris Krepline, who moved to the NCAA Division I program at the University of Cincinnati as director of player development.
A native of Appleton, Whitcomb is the 11th coach to lead the Lawrence baseball program.
"I'm honored to take over as head coach at Lawrence University and continue building on the success we've already achieved," Whitcomb said. "My focus is on pushing our team to new heights, both on and off the field, while staying true to the strong foundation that's been set."
Whitcomb played a key role in the resurgence of the Lawrence program over the past six years. With Whitcomb as the team's top assistant, the Vikings went 72-46 over the past three seasons and won Midwest Conference championships in 2022 and 2024. The Vikings won the 2022 Midwest Conference Tournament and played in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 1979. Lawrence set a school season record with 26 victories in 2022 and broke that record with 31 wins in 2024.
Lawrence also has had five All-America selections over the past three seasons to go with 11 All-Region 9 picks, two Midwest Conference Player of the Year awards and two Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Year honors.
Whitcomb brings a great baseball pedigree and a wealth of experience to the head coaching position.
A former star player at Appleton North High School, Whitcomb played two seasons at Eastern Illinois University before transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Whitcomb was a three-year starter in the outfield for the Titans and compiled a .336 career batting average.
A 2016 graduate of UW-Oshkosh with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, Whitcomb has served as Lawrence's hitting, outfield and third base coach. A strength and agility coach in the Fox Valley, Whitcomb has also worked as the head coach for the celebrated Appleton Post 38 American Legion team, winner of seven Wisconsin AAA state championships.
