Tracy Cromer took the reins of the Lawrence University softball program in 2020.
Cromer had been one of the Vikings' assistants for the 2018 and 2019 seasons and took over for Kim Tatro, who stepped down in April 2020 after 27 seasons.
Cromer brought 14 seasons of head coaching experience to the position at Lawrence.
A three-time Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Cromer has served as the head coach at four institutions. She started her coaching career in the 2004 season at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul and compiled a 102-97-2 record in five seasons. Northwestern-St. Paul made two consecutive NAIA Regional Tournament appearances and posted three 20-win seasons under Cromer's guidance. Cromer's 2008 squad notched a school-record 28 victories.
Cromer then spent five seasons at Manchester University and led the Spartans to the 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title. Manchester reached the finals of the conference tournament three times in five seasons under Cromer.
Cromer coached at Greenville University for the 2015 and 2016 seasons and led the Panthers to the 2016 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship. She then coached at Lancaster Bible College for the 2017 and 2018 seasons before joining the Lawrence staff.
A 1997 graduate of Bethel (Minn.) University, Cromer has compiled a 274-341-5 record through the 2023 season. She earned a master's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in coaching from Texas Woman's University in 2007.
Cromer is just the third coach in the Lawrence program's history, which dates back to 1984.
