Laura Wierschke

Laura Wierschke joined the Lawrence University coaching staff in 2018, but she is a familiar face to Vikings fans.

Wierschke, whose maiden name is Aerts, starred for the Vikings a decade ago. A 2010 Lawrence graduate, Wierschke was an outstanding all-around guard. She finished her career with 799 points, which ranks 18th in Lawrence history.

Wierschke also ranks seventh in Lawrence history with 200 steals and posted a career-high 88 in 2009-10. Wierschke had a career-high nine steals vs. Mount Mary University in January 2010. She ranks eighth with 231 assists and picked up a career-best 72 in 2006-07. Wierschke handed out a career-high nine assists at the University of Dallas in December 2009.

Wierschke, who averaged 3.4 rebounds per game, shot 43.4 percent from the floor, including 32.2 percent from beyond the arc. An outstanding free-throw shooter, Aerts is Lawrence's career leader from the line at 80.7 percent. She shot a career-high 85.2 percent from the line in 2009-10 when she set the Lawrence record with 109 made free throws.

A Kimberly, Wisconsin, native, Wierschke was a two-time All-Fox Valley Association selection in basketball and made the Post-Crescent All-Area Team. Wierschke's basketball teams won a Fox Valley Association championship made two appearances at the WIAA State Tournament. Wierschke also was a two-time all-conference selection in volleyball and served as captain of both teams.

Wierschke also played two seasons of volleyball at Lawrence as a setter and defensive specialist. She finished her career seventh in Lawrence history with 1,190 assists. She also collected 478 digs, 63 kills, 55 service aces and 41 blocks.

Wierschke earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Lawrence and works as a science teacher at Kimberly High School. Wierschke and her husband, Jason, have two sons, Broxton and JJ.
