Lawrence University

Kim Falkenhagen serves in a plethora of roles in Lawrence University's Department of Athletics.

Falkenhagen came to Lawrence in 2019 to take the reins as the head volleyball coach. She assumed the reins as interim director of athletics in February 2022 after working as Lawrence's associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator. 

Falkenhagen came to Lawrence after spending six seasons at Northland College in Ashland, Wis. She also served as director of athletics at Northland for five years. Falkenhagen coached for six seasons at Northland and completed her run there with the 2018 campaign. During her time at Northland, Falkenhagen had six student-athletes earn All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference honors and 15 student-athletes were named to the academic all-conference team. Her squad also won the American Volleyball Coaches Association Game Plan Team Academic Award.

As Northland's director of athletics, Falkenhagen oversaw dramatic change in the department of athletics. She directed the establishment of three new athletic programs and fundraising for and construction of Ponzio Stadium, home to Northland's soccer and lacrosse teams. Falkenhagen also grew the department of athletics staff and completed numerous other projects, everything from new hockey locker rooms to additional bleachers for the gymnasium.

Falkenhagen's coaching experience also includes seven seasons at a pair of NCAA Division II institutions. She spent four seasons (2003-06) as the head coach at Bemidji State University and three seasons (2007-09) as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico University.

A 1997 graduate of Northern Michigan University, Falkenhagen earned a bachelor's degree in political science and was a standout volleyball player for the Huskies. An All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, Falkenhagen played on the 1994 NCAA Division II national championship squad. She earned 1995 NCAA Division II All-Tournament honors, and her team reached the finals of the 1995 NCAA Tournnament. Falkenhagen also played on the 1994 and 1995 conference championship squads. She was inducted into the Northern Michigan Hall of Fame in 2000.

A native of Saginaw, Mich., Falkenhagen went on to earn her Master's degree in interdisciplinary studies (sports exercise science, political science and education administration) from West Texas A&M University in 2002.
