Berkley's goal lifts Vikings past Lakeland

APPLETON, Wis. -- Ryan Berkley's goal early in the first half Wednesday gave the Lawrence University women's soccer team a 1-0 non-conference victory over Lakeland University on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

Berkley took a pass from Danielle Dixon and scored on a shot from outside the box just 5:39 into the match. It was Berkley's second goal of the season.

The Vikings (1-2-0) peppered Lakeland goalkeeper Grace Daehling with 19 shots, and she made eight saves. Two more balls were saved off the line by Lakeland defenders. Lawrence finished with a 19-9 edge in shots, including an 11-1 advantage in shots on goals.

Lawrence goalkeeper Katlyn Seiffert made one save to earn her first career shutout.
