Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Lawrence University baseball team had the tying run on base in the top of ninth inning Saturday, but Blackburn College held on for a 5-4 nonconference victory at Lenz Field.
Mike Brady went 2-for-3 with a homer and a double and drove in three runs for the Vikings (1-3). Travis Weber and Matt Holliday had two hits apiece for Lawrence.
Jarrett Sandlin went five innings and picked up the win for Blackburn (1-5). Kyle Duex went the distance and took the loss for Lawrence. Duex allowed nine hits, struck out five and walked one.
Lawrence trailed 5-3 heading to the ninth when Brady smacked a two-out solo homer to slice the lead to one. Anthony Ortiz was then hit with a pitch to put the tying run on base, but he was caught stealing to end the game.
Lawrence trailed 2-0 after the first, but the Vikings cut the lead in half in the second when Brady doubled to score Rudy Mueller-Schrader. The Vikings then took the lead with two runs in the third when Holliday picked up a run-scoring single and Brady drew a bases-loaded walk for a 3-2 lead.
Blackburn scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth to retake the lead.
