APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team got three second-half goals Wednesday to pull away for a 4-0 Midwest Conference victory over Ripon College on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
 Â
Rodrigo Angulo and
Konstantinos Fardellas both had a goal and an assist to lead the Lawrence attack.Â
  Lawrence goalkeeper
Hunter Lanton made four saves to pick up the shutout. Kalan Narance stopped six shots for Ripon. Lawrence posted a 27-9 edge in shots for the match.
The victory moves Lawrence into a tie for first place in the Midwest Conference at 4-0-0, and that's the best start for the Vikings in the league since they went 4-0-0 in 2005.
Lawrence, 7-6-0 overall, got the scoring started late in the first half as Fardellas broke a scoreless tie. He took a pass from
Ian Salim, who had entered the match seconds earlier, and split the Ripon defense. Fardellas blasted the ball past Narance and Lawrence led 1-0 with six minutes left in the opening half.
The Vikings made it 2-0 early in the second half. Angulo took a corner kick and found defender
Zach Dale, who headed the ball past Narance at the 57:14 mark for his first collegiate goal.Â
Lawrence then put together a pretty play as Fardellas' through ball found
Cooper Kerkhof attacking on the left side. Kerkhof's shot went past Narance, deflected off the inside of the far post and found the back of the net at the 70:12 mark for a 3-0 lead. That also was Kerkhof's first collegiate goal.
Angulo completed the scoring for the Vikings in the 85th minute. Lawrence drew a foul in the penalty box, and Angulo converted the penalty kick with a rocket into the upper left corner at 84:26.
Lawrence hits the road for its next Midwest Conference match as the Vikings travel to Grinnell College on Saturday.
