GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team posted its second consecutive shutout with a 1-0 Midwest Conference victory at Grinnell College on Saturday.
Lawrence (9-5-1, 3-2-0 MWC) limited Grinnell to 11 shots for the match, and goalkeeper
Sarah Yochem made eight saves to collect her sixth shutout of the season. The Vikings haven't allowed a goal in the last 191 minutes, 47 seconds.
The only scoring came late in the first half, and it was rookie
Natalie Linebarger who did the honors for the Vikings. The Vikings took a throw in, and the ball caromed off the head of a Grinnell defender. Linebarger slipped past another Grinnell defender and one-timed the ball past keeper Hannah Malicky for a 1-0 lead with 13-plus minutes remaining in the opening half.
The win moved the Vikings over the .500 mark in league play, and it was the first victory over Grinnell since 2015.
Lawrence returns to Iowa next weekend when the Vikings travel to Cornell College.
