MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Midwest Conference decision to Monmouth College Friday night at Glennie Gymnasium.
   Monmouth topped the Vikings 25-21, 25-19, 25-11.

Sophia Galassini was a bright spot for the Vikings as she pounded out a match-high 13 kills to go along with 12 digs.
Liza Stalcup and
Elizabeth Liebau chipped in with five kills apiece for Lawrence.

Dana Mestey paced the Vikings with 20 assists, and
Marife Entenza had a team-best 13 digs.
   Monmouth built a 21-15 lead in the opening set, but the Vikings got back-to-back kills from Stalcup to trim the margin to 21-17. The Scots traded points with the Vikings rest of the way to close out the first set.
   A Galassini kill cut Monmouth's lead in the second set to 17-14, but the Scots scored the next four points to take charge. Lawrence never got closer than five points after that.
   Lawrence took a 4-1 lead in the third set, but the Scots used a pair of 7-0 runs to grab a 16-6 advantage and pulled away from there.
   Lawrence returns to action on Saturday as the Vikings travel to Illinois College.
