Lawrence dominates in shutout of Mount Mary

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team put on a dominating performance Sunday in a 5-0 nonconference win over Mount Mary University.
Three Vikings scored their first collegiate goals in the victory as Lawrence posted a 26-3 edge in shots. Sydney Allen, Jaicey Stanich and Makenzy Dreher all scored their first goals for Lawrence (7-4-1).
Kaitlyn Khazen got the Vikings started early as she scored just 3:09 into the match for a 1-0 lead. The Vikings quickly made it 2-0 when Allen capitalized on a ball the Blue Angels couldn't clear. She beat goalkeeper Brianna Brown at 7:04, and the Vikings were up by two. The Vikings made it 3-0 with just 2:02 left in the first half when Stanich's shot found the lower right corner of the net.
Samantha Tolu then weaved through the Mount Mary defense and scored her fourth goal of the season at the 50:05 mark to put the Vikings up 4-0. Dreher then took a pass from Allen and scored at 60:08 for the final margin.
Lawrence goalkeeper Sarah Yochem made one save to record the shutout, her fourth of the season. Brown stopped seven shots for the Blue Angels.
After logging a thousand miles on the road this weekend, the Vikings get a few days off before taking on Knox College at home on Oct. 9.
