APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Midwest Conference decision to Grinnell College on Friday night at Alexander Gymnasium.
  The Pioneers won the match 25-13, 25-16, 25-19 in the annual Dig Pink match for breast cancer awareness. The Vikings honored former Lawrence player Jennifer Spicuzza-Pfannerstill, the mother of current Lawrence player
Kali Pfannerstill, before the match. Spicuzza-Pfannerstill lost her battle with breast cancer in 2018.
  Grinnell (13-9, 4-0 MWC) used some big scoring runs to break open tight sets. In the opening set, Lawrence trailed just 16-13, but the Pioneers rattled off the next nine points to close out the set. Grinnell went on a key 6-0 run in the second set to expand its lead to 17-9 and pull away. In the final set, the match was tied 15-15, but Grinnell scored five of the next six points and held the advantage from that point.

Elizabeth Liebau and
Sophia Galassini picked up seven kills apiece to pace Lawrence (5-12, 0-3). Lawrence's
Jordan Adamson added six kills and hit .267 for the match.
Dana Mestey collected a match-best 23 assists for the Vikings, and Pfannerstill had a match-high 15 digs.
  Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings host Beloit College.
