ASHWAUBENON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team scored in all but one inning in the opener Saturday and pulled out to a big early lead in the nightcap to post a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Northland College at Capital Credit Union Park.
Lawrence cruised to a 19-4 victory in the first game and took a 7-4 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, Lawrence pounded out 17 hits as
Spenser Ross,
Clayton Agler and
Ethan Plantz all had three hits.
Quinn Berglin and
Stephaune Haylock both had two hits for the Vikings. Ross and Agler both drove in four runs, and Ross scored twice. Plantz went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and Berglin and Haylock both scored a pair of runs.

Preston Anderson tossed four innings, allowed four hits, struck out six and walked two to earn his first collegiate victory for Lawrence (3-1). Lawrence used three relievers in the final three innings, and they combined to allow just two hits. Seth Hackbarth gave up 12 hits and 11 runs in 3.2 innings and took the loss for Northland (0-2).
Lawrence jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first with the help of Agler's run-scoring triple and added another run in the second. After Northland closed to 3-2 in the top of the third, the Vikings pulled away in the next three innings.
The Vikings scored four times in the third as
Elden Santana and Ross both collected run-scoring singles to push the lead to 7-2.
Lawrence then hung a seven on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. The Vikings took advantage of an error to score the first run in the frame and a bases-loaded hit batsman and a bases-loaded walk upped the lead to 11-2. Agler then belted a bases-loaded, bases-clearing triple, and the Vikings led 14-2.
Plantz added a run-scoring single in the fifth, and Ross followed with a two-run double with another run scoring on an error to get the Vikings to 19-2. Northland picked up a pair of runs in the seventh to round out the scoring.
In the second game, Lawrence jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the top of the fourth and went on to the victory. No Lawrence player had more than one hit, but Berglin blasted a two-run homer, his second long ball of the season.
  Â
Michael Duttlinger allowed six hits over four innings, striking out two and walking none, to collect his first collegiate victory. Santana worked around a walk in the seventh to collect his first career save.
Agler singled to score Miles in the top of the first and Lawrence led 1-0. The Lumberjacks tied it in the bottom half of the inning, but the Vikings struck for three runs in the top of the second. Two errors led to Lawrence's first run in the second, and Miles later smacked a two-run triple to put the Vikings up 4-1.
Lawrence then added two more runs in the third when Agler reached on an error and scored when Berglin hit a bomb over the left field fence for a 6-1 edge. Lawrence manufactured a run in the fourth on a walk, a sacrifice bunt, an error and Agler's sacrifice fly to go up 7-1.
Northland clawed back into it with two runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth, but
Jonah Palmer worked a scoreless sixth and Santana followed by shutting the door in the seventh to complete the victory.
Lawrence returns to action on March 19 when the Vikings travel to US Bank Stadium for a doubleheader with the University of Minnesota-Morris.
