Vikings drop pair to St. Norbert

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University softball team dropped a pair of Midwest Conference games to St. Norbert College on Thursday at Whiting Field.
Lawrence fell 7-0 in the opener and 10-2 in five innings in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Vikings were limited to just three hits by St. Norbert starter Ellie Olsen, who went the distance to pick up the shutout.
Amanda Karnatz, Chapin Grumhaus and Ceara Larson all had hits for Lawrence (2-12, 1-5 MWC), and Karnatz and Grumhaus both picked up a double.
With her double, Karnatz broke Lawrence's career doubles record with 42, topping the mark of 41 set by Alex Goodson from 2007-10. Karnatz also scored a run in the nightcap and now has 122 for her career, one shy of Hall of Famer Jenny Burris' record, which was compiled from 2001-04.
St. Norbert (11-7, 6-2) scored two runs in the third inning and finally broke the game open with five runs in the sixth. Emilia Jackson was the starter and took the loss.
In the nightcap, St. Norbert jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings and added two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to close out the Vikings.
Karnatz went 2-for3, scored a run and drove in a run for the Vikings, who were limited to five hits.
Lawrence got a run in the first when Jackson singled to score Karnatz and trim the lead to 2-1. That's as close as the Vikings would get, but they did add another run in the fourth when Karnatz singled to score Shelby Johnson.
Lizzy Angemi made her first career start for the Vikings and took the loss. Morgyn Zielke tossed the final three innings to pick up the win.
