APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball dropped an extra-inning heartbreaker to St. Norbert College in the home opener Saturday at Whiting Field, and the Green Knights went on to sweep the Midwest Conference doubleheader.
Lawrence lost the first game 7-5 in 10 innings, and St. Norbert took the nightcap 9-4.
In the opener, Lawrence (6-4, 0-2 MWC) got a stellar starting performance from
Preston Anderson, but the Green Knights rallied late to tie it. Anderson went seven innings, allowed four hits and three runs while striking out seven and walking two.
   Right fielder
Jacob Charon went 3-for-3 with two doubles, drove in four runs and scored once for the Vikings.

The Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 lead against St. Norbert starter Tommy Maher in the second. Charon delivered a run-scoring double to score Santana, and
Stephaune Haylock later singled to score Charon for a 2-0 edge.
The Vikings added three more in the fifth, and it was Charon who delivered. The Vikings loaded the bases on three walks before Charon delivered a bases-clearing, two-out double to put the Vikings up 5-0.
St. Norbert (8-5, 2-0) cut into the lead with three runs in the eighth, with Nick Volz smacking a two-run single. The Green Knights were down to their last strike in the ninth when Santana hit catcher Isaac Gerhardt with a pitch. Adam Cootway then delivered a two-run homer to tie it at 5-5.
Plantz led off the bottom of the ninth for Lawrence, but he was stranded at third. Sebastien Dubois hit a two-run double in the top of the 10th to give the Green Knights a 7-5 lead, but the Vikings threatened in the bottom half of the inning.
Quinn Berglin singled to lead off the inning, and Santana followed with a walk. After a bunt moved the runners into scoring position, Noah Beilfuss got a strikeout and groundout to end the game.
In the second game, St. Norbert built a 4-0 lead through the top of the fifth before Anderson delivered a run-scoring single to trim the margin to 4-1. St. Norbert then scored four times in the seventh to pull out to an 8-1 edge.
Berglin smacked a three-run homer in the ninth for the Vikings and leads the team with three round-trippers on the season.

Michael Duttlinger took a tough loss for the Vikings. Haylock and Plantz both went 2-for-4 for the Vikings.
