APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University softball team tossed a pair of shutouts Sunday to sweep a Midwest Conference doubleheader from Ripon College at Whiting Field.
   Lawrence won the opener 5-0 and took the second game 3-0.
   In the opener, rookie pitcher
Lizzy Angemi picked up her first collegiate win and shutout as she allowed just four hits while going the distance. Angemi struck out six and walked three while giving up four singles.

Amanda Karnatz went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, scored twice and drove in a run.
Ceara Larson went 2-for-3 with a double, drove in two runs and scored a run, and
Kelli Quick scored twice for the Vikings (5-15, 4-8 MWC).
   The Vikings got on the board in the third when Quick singled to start the rally. After Karnatz reached on an error, Angemi singled to load the bases. Larson followed with a single to score Quick and Karnatz and the Vikings led 2-0.
   Lawrence added two more runs in the fifth, and Karnatz started the rally with a one-out triple. After Angemi's sacrifice fly scored Karnatz, Larson smacked a double.
Mary Boyle later singled to score Larson and the Vikings were up 4-0. The Vikings added a run in the sixth when Quick reached on an error and scored on Karnatz's double.
   Alyssa Banta pitched the first 4.2 innings and took the loss for Ripon (5-29, 2-12). She allowed six hits, struck out seven and walked one.
   In the second game,
Shelby Johnson and Angemi combined on a two-hit shutout. Johnson tossed the first five innings and allowed only a third-inning single. Johnson struck out two and walked one as she picked up her first collegiate victory. Angemi tossed two innings of one-hit relief, striking out one and walking none, to get her first career save.
   Angemi also went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run, and Karnatz was 2-for-3 with a run scored.Â
   The only runs of the game came in the bottom of the first against Ripon starter Clare Luebke, who took the loss. Karnatz started the rally with a single and Angemi followed with a single. Larson then singled to score Karnatz and Lawrence led 1-0. After a groundout,
Mary Boyle smacked a double to score Angemi and Larson, and the Vikings were up 3-0.
   Ripon never put together any kind of serious rally and had only three runners reach as far as second base.
