FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team couldn't overcome an early deficit Wednesday and dropped a 6-2 nonconference decision to Marian University at Smith Field.
  Marian scored five times in the first 33 minutes to take control in the season opener for both teams.
  Max Kauffman had a hat trick to pace Marian, which got on the board just 17 seconds into the match. Kauffman then scored two goals four minutes apart to stake Marian to a 3-0 edge in the first 16 minutes.Â
  Lawrence got on the board in the 65th minute when
Mark Todd scored from the top right corner of the penalty box. Lawrence's
Elliot Mueller then picked up a goal in the 83rd minute off an assist from
Derek Morales for the final margin.
  Lawrence posted a 24-17 edge in shots over the Sabres.

Ethan Uribe allowed six goals and made five saves for the Vikings, and Kevin Cervantes played the first 78 minutes and made six saves to get the win.Â
