APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team scored three times in the third period Friday to top Marian University 4-1 in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Appleton Ice Center.

Lawrence needs a win or a tie in Saturday's game at Marian to regain possession of the Battle of Highway 41 trophy.
Marian jumped on top on Ty Mosimann's goal just 1:36 into the game, but the Vikings tied the contest late in the first period. Lodes picked the pocket of a Marian defender and flipped a wrist shot past Muise with 1:31 left in the first to tie the game at 1-1.
The score stayed that way until midway through the third when Dekumbis broke the tie. Oliver DeCrook fired a shot on net, and Dekumbis corralled the rebound and beat Muise at the 9:44 mark to put the Vikings up 2-1.
The Sabres pulled Muise with 3:30 left in regulation for an extra attacker but the Vikings found the empty net. Lodes streaked ahead of the Marian defense to grab a pass and scored with 2:40 remaining to give Lawrence a 3-1 edge. DeCroock and Dekumbis both picked up assists on the goal.
Muise went back into the game, but the Sabres pulled him again less than a minute later. Robertson scored an empty-netter with 13 seconds remaining as
James Scott and
Tim DeBord both picked up assists.
The teams wrap up the series on Saturday night at Marian.
