APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team scored a pair of early goals Saturday and shut down Finlandia University in a 2-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory at the Appleton Ice Center.
  Lawrence scored twice in the first 6:13 of the game and held Finlandia to just 12 shots for the game.
  The Vikings jumped on top just 1:59 into the game when
Ivan Galaguzov scored off a pass from
James Scott for a 1-0 lead. Lawrence quickly made it 2-0 when
Zach Lodes scored off passes from
Vincent Dekumbis and
Charles Stewart at the 6:13 mark.
  Lawrence (6-9-2, 4-6-1 NCHA) limited Finlandia one shot on goal in the opening period.
  The Lions (0-17-0, 0-11-0) cut the lead in half when PJ Donnelly scored at the 4:25 mark of the second.
  That was it for the scoring in an odd second period that saw both teams whistled for five-minute major penalties. The teams combined for eight penalties for 38 penalty minutes in the second period.
  Neither team was able to score on the power play in the game.
  Lawrence dominated the final period but couldn't get the puck past Finlandia goaltender Marcus Gross, who finished with 34 saves.Â
  When Finlandia's Sheldon Brett was whistled for cross-checking with just 27 seconds left the game, that sealed the victory for the Vikings.

Brian Tallieu made 11 saves to pick up the victory for the Vikings.
