APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team waited a long time for this one.
The Vikings topped Lake Forest College 75-60 in a Midwest Conference game on Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium for Lawrence's first win in the series in 14 seasons.
Lawrence beat Lake Forest for the first time in 27 games dating back to a 54-50 victory over the Foresters back on Dec. 3, 2006.Â
 Â
Kenya Earl led the way for Lawrence (8-9, 5-4 MWC) with game highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds.Â
Earl got plenty of help as
Maggie Culver scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, collected three assists and had a pair of steals. Guard
Delaney Brooks poured in 14 points as she went 5-for-8 from the floor, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range. Brooks also added a game-high five assists.
Maurissa Edwards led Lake Forest (5-11, 3-7) with 21 points.
Both teams struggled out of the gate, but Lawrence picked up steam late in the first quarter. The Vikings turned a 9-6 deficit in a 19-12 lead. Culver scored four points in that 13-3 run, and Earl drained a 3-pointer.
Lawrence led 22-15 after the opening quarter, and the Vikings stretched the lead. Earl scored six points in a 10-0 run that gave the Vikings a 32-17 advantage. The Vikings led 43-28 at the half.
Lake Forest clawed its way back to 51-43 in the third quarter, but Lawrence went on a quick 7-2 burst, capped by a Brooks 3-pointer, to build the lead back to 58-45.Â
Lake Forest never got closer than 10 points after that, and the Vikings built the lead to as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter.
The sweep by the Lawrence women and men over Lake Forest was the first time the Vikings defeated the Foresters on the same day since Dec. 3, 2006.Â
Lawrence returns to action on Tuesday when the Vikings travel to Knox College.
