APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals Saturday and went on to a 2-1 Midwest Conference victory over Illinois College on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
 Â
Zach Dale and
Konstantinos Fardellas both scored in the opening 19 minutes for Lawrence. Goalkeeper
Nason Lancina made five saves to earn his first collegiate victory.
The Vikings (2-7-1, 1-1-0 MWC) got on the board quickly after drawing a corner kick in the opening two minutes.
Jack Morrissey sent the corner kick into the box, and it found the head of 6-foot-5
Zach Dale. Dale towered above the Illinois College defenders and headed the ball past Carlos Garcia for a 1-0 lead at the 2:46 mark.
Lawrence doubled the lead in the 19th minute.
Derek Morales found Fardellas, who blasted a right-foot strike past Garcia at 18:34 for a 2-0 edge.
That lead stood until Tyler Lunning scored for Illinois College (7-4-1, 0-2-0) at 64:14. Lunning's shot hit the inside of the post and trickled in to trim the margin to 2-1.
That's as close as the Blueboys would get as Lawrence did a nice job controlling the play over the final 25 minutes.Â
Lawrence piled up 14 shots, and Garcia made three saves for the Blueboys.
