APPLETON, Wis. --
Cambrie Rickard's hat trick Saturday lifted the Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 3-2 Midwest Conference victory over Illinois College on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Rickard completed the hat trick in the 80th minute to break a 2-2 tie and deliver the win. It was the first hat trick of Rickard's career.
After giving up a goal at the 11:44 mark after a scramble in front of the net, Lawrence struck back quickly. Rickard pounced on a ball, taking it away from an Illinois College defender and beating goalkeeper Trista Walker to tie the match at 1-1 at the 18:44 mark.
Lawrence then grabbed the lead with less than 15 minutes left in the first half. The Vikings'
Natalie Linebarger took a corner kick and Rickard was alone in front of the goal. She redirected a header past Walker and the Vikings led 2-1 at the 31:07 mark.
Despite multiple quality scoring chances for the Vikings, the score stayed that way until late in the contest.Â
Haley Sommer scored after receiving a through ball at 79:07 for a 2-2 tie, but the Vikings responded quickly.
Rickard blasted a ball from about 25 yards out that found the corner of the net at 79:55 to give Lawrence a 3-2 lead.
Emma Vasconez and
Madi Jones picked up assists on the play.
 Â
Sarah Yochem made two saves to pick up the win, and Walker made five saves for the Lady Blues.
