Vikings dominate play but can't score against Cornell

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team dominated play Saturday against Cornell College, but the Rams pulled out a 2-0 Midwest Conference victory on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Lawrence snapped off 19 shots against the Rams, who were held to eight shots. Natalie Linebarger had seven shots to pace the Vikings. The Vikings also had a big advantage (60 percent-40 percent) in possession.
After a scoreless first half, Cornell got a corner kick early in the second half. Lawrence failed to clear the ball out of the box and it came to Elise Hermiston, who scored at 48:50 for a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings continued to press the attack and brought everyone, including goalie Sarah Yochem, forward for a late corner kick. The Rams managed to clear the ball, and Hermiston beat Yochem to the ball near midfield. She had an open net and scored with 1:27 left to seal the victory.
Yochem finished with three saves, and Cornell's Sabrina Ibanez had nine saves for the Rams.
