Late surge too much for Vikings at Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Lawrence University men's hockey team saw Buffalo State University break open a close game in the final period en route to a 4-0 nonconference victory in the season opener at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
Buffalo State was holding a tenuous 1-0 lead heading into the third period, but the Bengals scored on the power play early in the third period and then added two more goals to pull away.
Lawrence had a 36-33 edge in shots but couldn't get one past Emil Norman, who recorded the shutout. Brian Tallieu made 29 saves for the Vikings.
The only goal through the first two periods came at 8:53 of the first when Joel Frazee scored for the Bengals. It stayed that way until Robby Pustulka was called for tripping early in the third period. Parker Allison scored on the power play at 3:31 of the third for a 2-0 lead.
Buffalo State then added goals at 9:43 and 15:11 for the final margin.
The teams wrap up the series on Saturday.
